A True Back Country Race
An all day mountain biking marathon whose length is determined by your own route choices. Check in at six different checkpoints, then finish at Elk River approximately 100K (62 miles) later. Ride the trails and terrain that has put Slatyfork on the map as the eastern mecca of serious mountain biking. This will be a true test of endurance and riding skill. Bring your lighting systems, tools, family and friends for a true back-country experience. Race registration includes a camping weekend.

The Course
The course is up to you and what you think is the best way. Start at Elk River at 7am and check in at six different check points in sequence, always deciding for yourself which trail, dirt road, or paved road is the most efficient for your skill, fitness, and mental state, then finish at the Elk River Touring Center. The entire course should total approximately 100 k (62 miles) and have a cumulative elevation gain of nearly 8,000 ft. Trails such as Tea Creek Mtn., Bear Pen, Red Run, will lead you to Sharps Knob, Gay Knob, and deep into the Tea Creek Canyon. These are the trails and terrain that have put Slatyfork on the map as the eastern mecca of serious mountain biking. Depending on weather conditions the race could very possibly last deep into the night. So bring your lighting systems, food, tools, and most importantly your courage and perseverance. This will be the true test of endurance and eastern trail riding skill.

The field limit will be 200 racers. This race is not for beginners or intermediates with weak knees. The extreme length and terrain of the Wild 100 will surely break many. Finishers will be very proud of their accomplishment.

Register Online Pre-Registration is $110 (postmarked before July 25), and registration is $140 (after July 25). On-site registration Noon to 10p.m. Friday August 15. The Time -
A mandatory pre-race meeting will be held on August 16th at 6:45 am at the Elk River Inn. Riders should attend ready to ride. The Wild 100 will start after the pre-race meeting.

The Classes
There are classes for solo men, solo women, two person men, two person women, two person man & women, single speed men & women, first timers, over 50, and the WILD 100+ (extra checkpoint) for those of you who need a little more challenge. Plus will also have a single speed category.
New this year- WILD 100 LITE- For those that may be intimidated by 100K+ of Slatyfork's tough singletrack, a shorter (60-70K)version of the race. There will be a men's and women's division.

A note on teams
The concept behind a team is to simulate the epic backcountry group ride. Teams should work together to finish together. Leaving teamates behind will not improve your finishing time as it will be based on the last team member to finish. Just like you wouldn't leave your buddy in the woods on a group ride you shouldn't do that here. A team is only as strong as its weakest link. By working together you should be able to go faster and finish together.

Awards
Prizes from all our great sponsors will be award to the top five competitors in each race class. Awards ceremony will follow the race.

The Area
The Course will be contained within the mapped area of the Slatyfork Mountain Bike Trail Guide. All Trails are open and available for your route choices. Singletrack is plentiful here and many of the checkpoint locations will require technical singletrack skills as well as fitness and navigational efficiency. The checkpoints will remain top secret until the morning of the race. This will give no rider an opportunity to pre ride or plan routes prior to the start of the race. The only preparation would be to familiarize yourself with the area contained within the Trail Guide. Slatyfork is known for mile after mile of singletrack which is surely where the race will be won. Elevation gain is expected to near the 8,000' mark and of course will also descend equally as much. This is an endurance event and will be epic for all involved.

Recommended
Supplies each rider should carry include: food for the entire day- bring extra [Clif bars are great], clothing for extreme weather changes [Patagonia is light and protects well], lights for riding at night, lots of water, tools, spare parts, map, compass, and waterproof matches. These items are not required but strongly recommended.

People
This race is run by the Elk RiverTouring Center staff and volunteers. We love to have fun outdoors, especially on bikes and this is another way we have found to join together and enjoy each other and all of you riding mountain bikes.

Information
This race is designed for serious riders who have always wondered why typical races are so short or why sometimes those who can push pedals cannot think for themselves and follow the course or stay on the trail. We have seen that this format has become a model for other endurance, route-finding mountain bike races in the country. We will look for your advice, comments, and questions after the race. Please feel free to let us know what you think. For additional technical information and advice on gear, bikes or mountain biking in our area please call or e-mail Elk River Touring Center - 304.572.3771, ertc@ertc.com.
